Tiziana Tommei Contemporary will be present from January 31st to February 3rd 2019 at the VII edition of SetUp Contemporary Art Fair, at Palazzo Pallavicini, Bologna. In accordance with SetUp’s mission, an independent fair focused on the emerging international scene, Tiziana Tommei presents the artists Enrico Fico (Naples, 1985) and Roberto Ghezzi (Cortona, 1978), with a curatorial project conceived starting from the given theme: Ithaca.

Every minute that passes, everything that would have to settle down, fall down, be born, die or react on the pre-existing landscape, does it on my white canvases interposed between what was there and what should have been there at that point.

This is how I subtract landscape spirals from the landscape.

Roberto Ghezzi

The artistic practice of Roberto Ghezzi revolves around a conceptual design that, moving from reflections and experimentations on nature, finds expression in 2015 in a corpus of unpublished works, which he himself called, through a neologism, Naturografie. The artist shares with nature the creative process: he moves from studies, analysis and experimentation of environmental factors, to orient and fix the form and substance of his work. Such a corpus is the result of an approach that is anything but sudden and romantic, but rather a meditative and analytical one, which he carried out in parallel with painting. His landscapes on canvas have been, in the past and increasingly, sopposti to a transformation in a minimal key: in them he has subtracted the references to the essential to the essential, to arrive at a disconnect from reality understood as a phenomenal dimension. Such a gradual departure from the mimetic representation of nature has constituted the antechamber of a survey aimed at probing what nature hides, preserves and represents in its essence. The white canvas thus becomes a permeable mirror and p of the flow of life, a shroud that welcomes and preserves the elements of nature once restored through the pictorial stratification. In this dynamic of creation, the artist is an authentic director: he directs the spectacle of which nature is the protagonist; he decides place, time and matter, monitors all the steps of the process and finally chooses, fixing it in progress, the final aspect of the work. Besides all this, it exists and is founding, together with a scientific and mathematical attitude (expressed through the study of geographic coordinates and times of permanence, terrain and currents), a feeling of absolute respect for nature, the knowledge of its codes and a desire for sharing and communion with it.
