Piccoli Mondi – Palazzo del Podestà di Bergamo

The site specific installation by Roberto Ghezzi in the Sala dei Giuristi, in Bergamo, in the context of the I Maestri del Paesaggio Festival, was born from the communion of intentions between his artistic research and the festival’s mission: to enhance the landscape in all its diversity, experience the landscape without intrusions, in a natural dimension to be rediscovered.

For years, Roberto Ghezzi’s work has focused on the a-conflictual encounter between man and nature, in which the artist lends his tools to nature: a canvas, in a non-metaphorical sense, a virgin support prepared by him and installed in the place. chosen for “creation”. Here the artist lets nature “work” over time, with the long times that characterize the natural cycle of things. A dimension in which Man and Environment enter into a profound and original connection.

An unprecedented collaboration in which the landscape leaves its mark on the work through debris carried by water, wind, the impression of the sun and the vegetable pigment, the rubbing of the waters during their passage.

A project that led the artist to travel all over the world, from Alaska to Iceland, South Africa, Norway, Tunisia and Patagonia.

In these journeys, from these encounters, the artist collects seeds, leaves, branches, fragments of the stolen landscape through which the memory of the journey can be reconstructed: small amulets of time and place to re-transport us to elsewhere. The natural materials, collected in different landscapes of Italy and the world, are then stabilized and reassembled inside small cubic plexiglass boxes of 5-10 cm each, showing the GPS coordinates of the collection point on the bottom. .

The site specific installation created by Roberto Ghezzi in the Sala dei Giuristi is made up of the set of about thirty of these works, called “Small worlds”, illuminated with LED lights and placed on a fireproof black fabric: material objects in which nature represents itself without mediation.

Transposing them together in a place, close to each other, to remember journeys and distant lands, is like carrying out a small cosmogony operation: it is generating an imaginary landscape from scratch, ideal and universal, made up of fragments of reality.

The presentation of the exhibition will be on Saturday 11 September at 5.30 pm in the Sala dei Giuristi, Palazzo del Podestà, in Piazza Vecchia. To access you need the green pass and the reservation by Friday at 2.00 pm at this link

SOLO SHOW : NATUROGRAFIE – IL PAESAGGIO DELLA BONIFICA TRA ARTE E SCIENZA

Foto di Mara Predicatori

On Saturday 4 September 2021 at 6.00 pm the exhibition “Naturographies – The landscape of reclamation between art and science” by Roberto Ghezzi will be inaugurated at the Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in San Donà di Piave (VE).

The exhibition is curated by Elena Cantori and Monica Mazzolini and promoted and supported by the Municipality of San Donà di Piave with the collaboration of the Sandonatesi Civic Museums and the organization of Start Cultura and the EContemporary gallery in Trieste.

The exhibition is the continuation of an artistic and scientific project begun in July 2019 whose aim is to ideally unite, through art, the geographical coastal arc of the upper Adriatic between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. The works are the result of a collaboration between Man and Nature in a different perspective than other forms of art that transforms art in the landscape (Land Art) into landscape art. Nature intervenes by creating and living on a virgin support installed for this purpose by the artist.
The artist has identified, considering their aesthetic, physical, chemical and biological (flora and fauna) characteristics, numerous places in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Slovenia and Croatia where he created the installations for the creation of his “naturographies” that “map ”Thus a territory that we want to emphasize for its landscape value and for its rich biodiversity.
A new dialogue between art and nature and a different use of the natural places that hosted and fueled the artist’s creations.

The installations in Italy were made in a stretch of Rio Farneto in the Cacciatore park thanks to the co-organization with the Municipality of Trieste; in the Val Rosandra nature reserve with the patronage of the Municipality of San Dorligo della Valle; in an anthropomorphic area of the Navigable Canal in the industrial area of Trieste thanks to the collaboration of the Eastern Adriatic Port System Authority and the Euronautica 2000 srl company; in the natural reserves of Isola della Cona in collaboration with the Municipality of Staranzano and Canal Novo in collaboration with the Municipality of Marano Lagunare; in the Anfora canal thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Aquileia.
In Slovenia they have been hosted in the Val Stagnon di Capodistria nature reserve and in Croatia, in Istria, in the nature reserve at the mouth of the Mirna River in collaboration with the Municipality of Novigrad-Novigrad.
To these, in 2021, were added the installations in Veneto at the Cittanova water pump in collaboration with the Municipality of San Donà di Piave and the Sandonatesi Civic Museums.

The exhibition can be visited at the Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Piazza Indipendenza, 12 in San Donà di Piave from 4 September to 10 October 2021.
The opening hours will be from Tuesday to Saturday 16:00 19:00 Sunday 10:00 12:30 / 16:00 19:00
Access to the exhibition is allowed only upon presentation of the Green Pass and to a maximum number of 30 people at the same time.

ISOLA PROSSIMA – Group Show in Isola Polvese ( Trasimeno Lake)

A small green island surrounded by the waters of a lake, the Trasimeno, which has seen history pass by on its shores since ancient times. It is the Polvese island, a place close but at the same far away from everyday life, which offers a distant view, an unusual point of view from which ideas can be born to bring into the world of the present to imagine the world of the future.
In this art project, Polvese becomes NEXT ISLAND, in the double meaning of “neighboring island”, but also of “next island”, the island to come.
The artists on display were invited to reflect on the three key concepts of the project: art, environment, future.
Our society has reiterated in a particular way what has already been known for centuries: no human being is an island but lives and finds full development in the shared relational context. The experience lived by all of us during this pandemic has revealed how much the individual reality of each is interconnected with the destinies of others, how much the social network is fundamental to face the challenges that arise before us. Challenges that today are primarily that of the relationship with the natural environment and that of being able to imagine the world to come. These concepts are in turn strongly intertwined: any project on the future of the world and of humanity must take into account the relationship with the environment, questioning our way of being in the world. Thinking about the future means having a vision of the world to come, of the next world, because all our actions take the forms we are capable of imagining.
The exhibition brings together several generations of artists, therefore different approaches, different worldviews, different weltanschauung, because the future is also a conception of life, of the world, and of the position occupied by man in it. The exhibition itinerary presents a composite reality, a pluriverse in which the artists involved bring their worlds, their reflections and investigations, their own vision.
Sculpture, painting, photography and installations compose an imaginative geography in which the works, with the aesthetic and ecstatic power that only art possesses, surprise and confuse, reveal and conceal, whisper and shout, present in new forms “what is known “and they use known forms to bring out” the invisible “. In passing through the rooms of the Ex Monastero on the Polvese island, one also crosses the short circuit between man and the environment that characterizes our time, breathing an air full of visionary power, essential for imagining a future that will recover, in an unprecedented way, the sacred balance between nature and human.
The invited artists are:
Affiliates of Peducci, Edoardo Cialfi, Mario Consiglio, Frank Dituri, Roberto Ghezzi, Mauro Manetti, Massimiliano Poggioni.
The exhibition is promoted and supported by Arpa Umbria and designed by the ART MONSTERS cultural association together with the invited artists.

Group Show in San Pellegrino Terme – VIE D’ACQUA

Water is life, it is energy, it is essential, it is a resource of inestimable value for its peculiar properties and for many uses and virtues that testify its importance for man, even in a simple daily gesture such as preparing pasta. or wash your hair. And it’s not just about man, water is also essential for the environment and all other beings who live on Earth.
WITHOUT WATER THERE IS NO LIFE!
And what has man done with it in the last half century? He wasted it and polluted it.
It is urgent to consider water a “COMMON GOOD” that everyone, without distinction, must protect. The right to water in the world is an international right sanctioned by the United Nations in resolution 64/292 of 2010 which defines “drinking water as essential for the realization of human rights”.
LISTING on the WATER EXCHANGE: NO THANKS. We join the denunciation of the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to water Pedro Arrojo-Agudo who on 11 December 2020 expressed grave concern at the news that water, like any commodity, will be traded in the “futures” market of New York Wall Street Stock Exchange. The beginning of the water price marks a before and after for this indispensable good for life on earth. This is an epochal transition that opens up to speculation by large capital and the marginalization of territories, populations, small farmers and small businesses.
If today water can be listed on the stock exchange it is because it has long been considered a commodity, subject to a logic of profit and privatized management.
To reverse the course once and for all, to secure the water resource and defend the fundamental rights of citizens, we ask every citizen to read the Petition that the Italian Forum of Water Movements has made to the Italian Government by going to visit the website: www.acquabenecomune.org, read it, become aware of it and affirm:
“WATER IN THE BAG NO THANKS”.
Starting from these brief premises, in 2019, I conceived and designed a series of events called “WATER WAYS” and “WATER TRAILS”. The invited artists undertake to report to the public the urgency and importance of the theme, and with their works, to spread understanding and increase awareness.
Each Artist does it with their own typicality, seeking energy and aesthetic potential in the essential value of water to affirm that Art like Water is vital for existence: WITHOUT WATER and WITHOUT ART
COMPANIES DIE.
The project develops as a “work in progress” in different territories and locations and with a medium to long term chronology and is a proposal to create a museum dedicated to water.
The project will be presented in S.Pellegrino Terme (BG), a well-known tourist resort and, since the early 1900s, a well-known spa resort. In addition to being home to the San Pellegrino water plants, exported and known all over the world, the town is considered a historical place of excellence for water.
From 1st to 31st August at the “Villa Funicolare”, seat of the Historical Cultural Center of the Brembana Valley “Felice Riceputi”, under the patronage of the Municipality of S. Pellegrino Terme, the project VIE DELL’AQUA & PERCORSI D’ACQUA will be presented and realized relative exhibition to which artists of national and international fame have been invited to exhibit their works on the theme of water.
The project also provides for the creation of “nature trails” in the area. On each path an artist will be invited to create an installation using local, eco-sustainable materials in harmony with the environment.
The various projects will be exhibited as well as photographic documentation of the routes and their characteristics of flora and fauna.
For the exhibition some important Italian poets will be invited to provide their texts on the theme of water. The texts, later, will be engraved on stone slabs (or other material), which will be placed on routes planned to create the Way called “POETIC OF WATER”.
The installations, the poetic texts together with the works on display, will constitute a first nucleus of the future “VIE D’ACQUA” Museum.
The exhibition will then be hosted in Sermoneta (LT) city of art, at the Church of S. Michele Arcangelo from 23 October to 20 November 2021.
The future intent of the Project is the creation of a chain of localities where water is matter that the body touches, where its vital flow is visible that binds territories, communities, cultures, with the aim of their twinning in which the water is the “vital glue”
We will propose to the Mayors the possibility of “Twinning” between river, lake, spa and sea locations to create and establish a “Chain of Waterways” which has an emblematic solidarity value in the “liquidity” of the routes.

Solo show : NATUROGRAFIE© – AQUILEIA (UD)

Naturografie © is the final result of an artistic project and scientific research started in July 2019, the aim of which is to ideally unite, through art, the geographical coastal arc of the upper Adriatic between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. The works are the result of a collaboration between Man and Nature
in a different perspective than other forms of art that transforms art in the landscape (Land Art) into landscape art. Nature intervenes by creating and living on a virgin support installed for this purpose by the artist.
The artist has identified, considering the aesthetic, physical, chemical and biological characteristics (flora and fauna), numerous places in Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Slovenia and Croatia where he created the installations for the creation of his Naturographies © that “map” thus a territory that we want to emphasize for its landscape value and for its rich biodiversity.
A new dialogue between art and nature and a different use of the natural places that hosted and fueled the artist’s creations.
For the realization of these works, Roberto Ghezzi works by choosing the place of the installation and the material of the support (in this case canvases left outdoors on the banks of a body of water or a river) leaving then to time and to Nature itself the completion of the workThe light, minerals, waters and organisms that live in those waters act on those canvases to create living and always different landscapes.
Once recovered, the canvases are stabilized and mounted for display. Thus, from the hand of natural elements and from the mind of man, the Naturographies © are born: works that no longer represent the landscape, but are.
The installations in Italy were made in a stretch of Rio Farneto in the Cacciatore park thanks to the
co-organization with the Municipality of Trieste; in the Val Rosandra nature reserve with the patronage of the Municipality of San Dorligo della Valle; in an anthropomorphic area of the Navigable Canal of the industrial area of Trieste thanks with the collaboration of the Eastern Adriatic Port System Authority and the Euronautica 2000 srl company; in the natural reserves of Isola della Cona in collaboration with the Municipality of Staranzano and Canal Novo in collaboration with the Municipality of Marano Lagunare; in the Anfora canal thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Aquileia and finally at the Cittanova drainage pump in San Donà di Piave in collaboration with the Sandonanesi civic museums and the Municipality of San Donà di Piave. In Slovenia they have been hosted in the VaL Stagnon di Capodistria nature reserve and in Croatia, in Istria, in the nature reserve at the mouth of the Mirna River in collaboration with the Municipality of Novigrad-Novigrad.

States of grace, artistic residence, from 24 to 28 February 2021

18 artists immersed in the nature of Valtiberina. “To close oneself to open up” to dialogue and confrontation, after months of isolation. The meeting was born from the need to create, after very complicated months due to the pandemic, an opportunity for profound comparison between artists who feel the need to listen, deepen, investigate the historical moment we are experiencing, in order not to give up dialogue, indeed to build new exchanges, new trajectories, radical and rooted in the desire to build broad thinking. For CasermArcheologica this was a moment to call some of the artists we have worked with in the past, along with others we would like to work with in the future, to inspire the designs and artistic productions of the next few years.

The invited artists were not asked for a productive outcome at the end of the days in Sansepolcro, because we think that at this moment it is more necessary to share thoughts, directions and possible – even divergent – ways of crossing this time and collecting what emerges. For this reason, we decided to invite interdisciplinary authors and authors, who we believe to be close to a poetics of listening and proximity to lack, the desire to bring out, with their own distinctive paths, the invisible hidden within the possibility of change that this period asks us.

RADICI E FOGLIE SOLTANTO – EXHIBITION – CIVIC MUSEUM OF PALAZZO DELLA PENNA, PERUGIA

Roots and leaves only Roberto Ghezzi – Ilaria Margutti Curated by Michele Dantini and Michela Morelli Civic Museum of Palazzo della Penna 30 December 2020 – 28 February 2021

The Municipality of Perugia, in collaboration with Munus Arts & Culture, presents the exhibition Roots and leaves only, an exhibition dialogue that intertwines the works of two artists: Roberto Ghezzi and Ilaria Margutti. The exhibition, curated by Michele Dantini and Michela Morelli, is designed and built in close relationship with the history and specificities of the Civic Museum of Palazzo della Penna and the territory that hosts it, which are also the places that saw it born. . The immersive and multisensory path sets in the museum rooms visions and smells drawn from nature and the living reality of the experience and daily creative work of the two artists. Roberto Ghezzi and Ilaria Margutti have completely different sensitivities and orientations, but they are approached by the practice of site-specificity, for them declined as a choice of territorial or topographical fidelity, a desire for constant association with resident communities or with the local landscape clearly visible to the inside their works.

Both coming from Tuscany, Ghezzi and Margutti boast numerous national and international experiences and multiple links with the Umbrian territory and the city of Perugia, for which in this exhibition they prepare two tributes: a Naturography © by Roberto Ghezzi created within the waters of the Lake Trasimeno and dedicated to the work of Gerardo Dottori, of whom the Civic Museum of Palazzo della Penna permanently preserves a vast collection of works, and a tribute performance to Bettina Fuso by Ilaria Margutti connected to the Hellenes of Brajo Fuso exhibited in the courtyard of the same museum. With his close link with the museum and the attention to nature that characterizes the research of both artists and which ideally also reconnects them to the research of Joseph Beuys (whose unique work is kept inside the Civic Museum of Palazzo della Penna) the exhibition aims to be a real experience and a possibility of knowledge and encounter, through art, of multiple creative paths: between history, nature and territory.

«Like the title, quoted by Walt Whitman that suggests discretion and simplicity, the exhibition grows delicately until it fills with itself the rooms of the Civic Museum of Palazzo della Penna, for which it was specifically designed and built and from which it is inseparable. In this case, in fact, the museum and its history, together with the territory, are an intrinsic component of the exhibition itself “, says Leonardo Varasano, councilor for culture of the Municipality of Perugia” The exhibition has grown tenaciously in the context of the pandemic and she managed to see the light despite adversity, showing a capacity for lively involvement. Both tenacity and involvement are typical characteristics of nature itself, the central theme of the works of both artists, and it is precisely to these values that, through the exhibition, we entrust our wishes for the new year ». Roots and leaves only will be inaugurated remotely on 30 December 2020 through the dissemination of a video on the social channels of the Municipality of Perugia – Department of Culture and the Civic Museum of Palazzo della Penna and will be usable in person the day after the museums reopen until as of February 28, 2021

PROJECT AND SOLO SHOW IN TRIESTE – NATUROGRAFIE 2020

The project
Creating Naturographies in such a vast, diversified area, so rich in history and suggestions, was an unforgettable opportunity for me to grow, both human and professional.
My research has been enriched with extraordinary experiences and I have been able to dialogue with different environments, from the brackish lagoon
to the mountain stream, from the man-made port to the river park.
But it was certainly the human aspect, the possibility of sharing this adventure with people who love their land in a thousand ways and for a thousand different reasons, that left the deepest and most indelible trace on me, just as Nature left his on the canvases. Biologists, councilors, curators, artists or simple enthusiasts, still able to be amazed, who together with the strength of the elements have sculpted these lands, whose beauty you cannot draw.
At the most, you can borrow it.
Roberto Ghezzi

Ghezzi operates in places chosen for their aesthetic, physical, chemical and biological (flora and fauna) characteristics: rivers, streams, lakes or seas. Places where he decides to anchor the supports built with strictly natural materials and which at the time of installation are specifically geo-localized for constant identification.
The “deposited” canvases are left inside the environment for a period ranging from a few weeks to a few months and the 4-handed work between nature and the artist will return a different stratification of materials and signs for each canvas. Water-air-insects-leaves-earth-sand-algae-molds-footprints set in motion this creative process that the artist documents, day after day, with images and videos.
It is Roberto Ghezzi himself who decides when to stop this natural process by taking the canvases and fixing his Naturographs with substances such as resins and antioxidants, glass and plexiglass to preserve the work created by nature in the flow of time.

The exhibition

“Naturografie, a dialogue between art, nature and man” by Roberto Ghezzi, Saturday 15 August 2020 at 7.00 pm at Sala Veruda- Palazzo Costanzi  (Piazza Piccola 2, Trieste-Italy).

The event, promoted by Cizerouno and EContemporary art gallery, is organized with the co-organization of the Municipality of Trieste, with the support of Fondazione Casali and AcegasApsAmga.

The exhibition is part of the cultural program of Esof2020 (Trieste has been nominated European City of Science 2020) and it is the result of an artistic and scientific project that started last year in July (here the website: http://www.cizerouno.it/naturografie2020/).

The artist, together with the curators Elena Cantori, Monica Mazzolini and Massimiliano Schiozzi, has identified, considering their aesthetic, physical, chemical and biological characteristics (flora and fauna), numerous places in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Slovenia and Croatia where to create the installations for his “Naturografie”.

To realize his artworks, Roberto Ghezzi works by choosing the places for the installation and the materials of the support, leaving the canvases outdoors in a mirror of water of the lagoon and of the sea or in a river and then he allows time and Nature itself to complete the artwork.
Light, minerals, waters and various organisms that live in those waters work on those canvases to create vivid and ever-changing landscapes.

Once recovered, the canvases are stabilized and framed to be exhibited.

Naturografie are born from the hand of natural elements and the mind of man: works that no longer represent the landscape, but are the landscape.

The installations were carried out thanks to the collaboration of:

  • Municipality of Trieste: Rio Farneto in the Cacciatore park
